On Establishment of Asian Control Conference

1. Motivation to Establish Asian Control Conference

Most of important international conferences have been thus far held in Europe or U.S., and the researchers in Asia have only participated in those conferences, without having an opportunity to get acquainted each other, notwithstanding they are close neighbours.

It is important for us to continue and broaden international contact with a world wide scope, but also it should be recognized the importance of adding Asia into our scope, and also drawing the attention of researchers in those areas to Asia, and making them add Asia into their scope.

In order to accomplish this task, it is desired that we should be more active to organize various international conference in Asia as before, and more importantly to have a regularly held international conference of a high world reputation in Asia.

2. Goal of Asian Control Conference

To promote the innovative development of control science and technology in Asia, and thereby to contribute the progress of control science and technology of the world.

3. Definition of Asian Control Conference

It is a world wide international conference in the field of science and technology of control and related area thereof, organized by the leading researchers in Asia and held in Asia.

4. Organization Structure of Asian Control Conference

It is not a fixed organization, but a series of conferences held regularly. The Steering Committee is responsible to maintain its continuity and identity. The Steering Committee is organized by the leading individuals of control scientists and engineers in Asia. The local Organizing Committee is responsible to organizing of the respective conference.

To maintain political neutrality, it should be organized and operated independently of the other international organizations, but it should also be payed full attention to have a good and friendly ties with IFAC and other academic organizations.

The Steering Committee will have no its own budget, its activity will be maintained by the voluntary participation of the committee members. But it shall be allowed to include the cost of the meetings in the location of the conference to the budget of the conference within an admissible limit.

5. Frequency of the Conference

Every two or three years seems to be adequate. The first conference shall be sooner than in 1993.

6. Range of Asian

The issue is only concerned with the composition of the Steering Committee. It seems to be commonly acceptable to start with a relatively small group.

7. Preparatory Committee

The Preparatory Committee shall be organized. Its main function will be: (1) To set up the draft of the bylaw of the Steering Committee, (2) To select the member of the 1st Steering Committee, and (3) To make a time schedule to the establishment of Asian Control Conference, and its 1st Conference.

Why we need a new Conference?

What is the aim of the Conference?

The Asian Conference will be an international conference in the field of control science and technology and their related areas to be held regularly in Asia. It will be aimed at promoting the innovative development of control science and technology in Asia.

How is the Conference organized and managed?

The Asian Control Conference will not be a fixed organization; rather, it is a name to be given to a series of conferences, which will be held regularly. The Steering Committee will be a permanent organization responsible for maintaining its continuity and identity.

How is the Conference financed?

The activity of the Steering Committee will be, in principle, maintained by the voluntary participation of the committee members. However, each Organizing Committee will be obliged to contribute a certain percentage of total registration fee to the Steering Committee.

Prehistory of Birth of ASCC

1991

Initial Proposal

In October 1991, the vision for establishing the Asian Control Conference was conceived in Tokyo. Leading control scientists from across Asia recognized the need for a regional platform to foster collaboration and exchange of knowledge.

1992

Steering Committee Formation

The Steering Committee was planned to be organized at the latest in early 1992 to prepare for the inaugural conference. This marked the beginning of organized efforts to establish ASCC.

1994

First ASCC Conference

The vision became reality when the 1st Asian Control Conference was successfully held in Tokyo, Japan. This historic event marked the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day, bringing together hundreds of researchers from around the world.
