ACA Temasek Young Educator Award

ACA Temasek Young Educator Award

Recognizing Outstanding Young Educators in Control Engineering

Introduction

The aim of the ACA Temasek Young Educator Award is to honour appropriately outstanding contributions to the education in control theory and applications by young persons in the Asia-Oceania region. These contributions can be expressed in terms of the impact in the society at large, the engineering profession, control industry, and/or in the university arena.

Application to the award is open to any young person of age forty years and below; and the young person should already be an ACA Member at the time of application. Thus the award seeks to recognize outstanding education efforts in Control Systems Engineering from amongst the younger generation, and it also serves as an impetus to encourage more young persons to identify with us as ACA Members.

Up to two ACA Temasek Young Educator Awards will be presented every ASCC year, with each Award valued at US$500. There will be an upcoming Call for Application soon for the award jointly by the VP(Education) and VP(Membership). An independent committee of eminent ACA persons will make the decision from the received applications.

Similar to the more senior W.H. Kwon Education Award in ACA, the prize is not intended to honour in the first instance scholarly contributions to the theory of control engineering education, although this can be an important contribution. Rather the prize is for appropriate excellence in practicing control and systems engineering education (as appropriate at the level of a Young Educator).

Excellence in control education (as appropriate at the level of a Young Educator) can be established along the lines of:

  • The influence on PhD students, and quality of contributions made by distinguished (PhD) students
  • The impact and influence of text books (for undergraduate and/or graduate courses)
  • The creation or introduction of new teaching methods
  • The impact of a whole oeuvre in educating a generation of students
  • The impact of teaching methodology in control engineering practice
